What is this? A Journey to Freedom.
Mukti = Freedom & Yatra = Journey. Unlike a traditional Arangetram, the Mukti Music milestone is not a culmination of training or a declaration of mastery. It is a stage in the journey — an opportunity for a young musician to step forward, share what they have discovered, and be reminded that learning never ends. When a middle schooler shows passion and interest in being a full rounded musician, we shape their learning which prepares them to understand themselves and showcase a body of work.
Students are encouraged to choose music that speaks to them, rather than being confined to a prescribed repertoire. Their performance can move naturally between Indian classical traditions, Western music, contemporary sounds, film, jazz, folk, and global musical influences.
At Mukti Music, we believe children should not have to choose between tradition and individuality. They learn the foundations deeply, but are given the freedom to interpret, experiment, create, and find their own musical voice.
The goal is not to make a child perform perfectly or prove that they have arrived. It is to help them become curious, authentic, confident musicians — grounded in where they come from, open to the world, and excited about where their music can take them next. It is not the end of learning. It is an invitation to keep learning.
